After the conquest of the first Olympic medals by Willian Lima (judo), Larissa Pimenta (judo) and Rayssa Leal (skate street), the Brazilian athletes competed with great expectations this Monday (29).
Judo
The judo qualifiers began early in the morning, with Rafaela Silva representing Brazil in the women's category up to 57 kg and Daniel Cargnin in the men's category up to 73 kg. Rafaela Silva defeated Maysa Pardayeva, from Turkmenistan, and Eteri Liparteliani, from Georgia, to advance to the semifinals. In the fight against South Korean Mimi Huh, Rafaela was defeated. In the fight for bronze, the Brazilian judoka faced Haruka Funakubo, from Japan, but was eliminated by penalty in a close fight.
Daniel Cargnin, bronze medalist in Tokyo, competed in the men's under 73 kg category, but was defeated in the first fight by ippon by Kosovar Akil Gjakova.

Volleyball
Brazil made its debut in women's volleyball against Kenya and dominated the match, winning by 3 sets to 0. The scores were 25/14, 25/13 and 25/12, demonstrating the technical and tactical superiority of the Brazilians. With this victory, Brazil leads Group B and will face Japan next Thursday (01/08), at 8 am (Brasília time).
Rugby
Brazil's women's rugby team said goodbye to the Paris 2024 Olympics after losing 39-12 to Japan on Monday morning (29). The Brazilian team finished last in Group C of the competition.
Badminton
Young athlete Juliana Viana, 19 years old, achieved a historic feat by winning Brazil's first female badminton victory at the Olympics. The victory came after Juliana defeated athlete Lo Sin Yan Happy, from Hong Kong, by 2 games to 0. Very emotional, the Olympic athlete expressed her state of shock at the result and added that it had not yet sunk in.
Swimming
In swimming, Guilherme Costa, known as Cachorrão, competed in the 800m freestyle heat, finishing in 6th place with a time of 7m 54s. This position was not enough to qualify him for the medal race at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Table tennis
In table tennis, Vitor Ishiy began his journey in the men's singles with a convincing victory over Australian Nicholas Lum, winning 4-0 with partial scores of 11/7, 11/5, 11/7 and 11/6. Vitor will face German Dimitrij Ovtcharov in the second phase of the competition.
In the women's competition, Bruna Takahashi was unable to overcome the American Lily Zhang, being defeated by 4 sets to 2, with partial scores of 11/8, 11/7, 9/11, 8/11, 11/8 and 11/8.
Skateboard
Kelvin Hoefler finished sixth in the men's street skateboarding event at the 2024 Paris Olympics, with 270.27 points, being the only Brazilian in the final. The gold was won by Japanese Yuto Horigome, who scored 281.14 points, securing victory in the last maneuver with the highest score of the competition, 97.08. Kelvin, who had finished the qualifying phase in fifth place, had already won the silver medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Tennis
Beatriz Haddad Maia had a mixed day at the 2024 Paris Olympics. In the singles tennis tournament, she was eliminated by Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, losing 2 sets to 0 with partial scores of 6-4 and 6-3. However, Bia recovered in the doubles competition alongside Luisa Stefani, beating Chinese Yuan Yue and Zhang Shuai 2 sets to 0, with partial scores of 6-4 and 6-4. Bia and Luisa advance to the round of 16 in the doubles, where they will face the winners of the duel between British Watson and Boulter and Germans Siegemund and Kerberonde.
Fencing
Guilherme Toldo was eliminated in the second phase in the foil competition by Chinese Mo Ziwei, by 15 to 7. With the result, the athlete says goodbye to the competition.
Boxing
Bia Ferreira won the women's boxing category up to 60 kg by defeating the American Jajaira Gonzalez. With ample dominance in the fight, Bia was superior in the three rounds and won unanimously (5-0). Qualified for the quarterfinals, the Brazilian will face the Dutch Chelsey Heijnen this Wednesday (31).
In contrast, Abner Teixeira was unable to overcome Ecuadorian Gilmar Congo Chalá in the men's over 62kg category. Bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Abner says goodbye to the competition.

Surfing
The Olympic surfing competition had a bitter start for Filipe Toledo, who saw his medal dream end prematurely when he was eliminated in the round of 16. Toledo was unable to find the ideal wave, scoring just 2.46, while his opponent, Japanese surfer Reo Inaba, finished the heat with 6.00.
The disappointment of Toledo's elimination was soon reversed by renewed hope with João Chianca, known as 'Chumbinho', who secured his place in the quarterfinals by beating Moroccan Ramzi Boukhiam with a tight 18.10 to 17.80. Chumbinho will face Gabriel Medina for a place in the semifinals, after the three-time world champion defeated Japanese Kanoa Igarashi by 17.40 to 6.44. The heat was marked by a historic record, with Medina receiving the highest score ever given in the history of Olympic surfing: an impressive 9.90, after a spectacular tube.
