Dafolha reports that most Brazilians agree with the expansion of paternity leave

According to a Dafolha survey, released this Tuesday (2), 76% of Brazilians agree that the period of paternity leave should be longer, so that women, in the postpartum period, are more welcomed and have more support from their partner in these first newborn days.
Paternity leave period
Currently, the period of paternity leave, where fathers are away from work without salary deduction, is five working days. The issue divided people, according to research. It is most supported by men, with 77% of them supporting the extension of the license and another 21% disagree. Among women, 75% agree with increasing this period and, on the other hand, 23% disagree.

Dafolha interviewed, between March 19th and 20th, approximately 2000 people, in several municipalities in all regions of the country and, with the survey, women agree that maternity leave should also be extended to 180 days. In percentage terms, 88% of women agree and only 21% disagree with enlargement. Among men, 78% of men agree with the extension of maternity leave and 20% disagree.
Businesspeople disagree with expanding paternity leave
Dafolha also sought to find out businesspeople's opinions regarding paternity leave and the period women are away from work. They are those who least agree with the extension of this period, in relation to paternity leave. 67% disagree with this measure and, in relation to maternity leave, 65% disagree.
Among Bolsonaro's supporters, 73% of businesspeople agree with increasing paternity leave and 78% agree and support mothers spending more time with their children.
Among supporters of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), current president of Brazil, 87% of businesspeople agree with maternity leave being extended.
