– trending news updates, world news, local news and all about nations, states and governments.

On Tuesday (30), the Organization of American States announced that it does not recognize the result of the presidential elections that declared the reelection of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela, who won with around 51.02% of the votes. According to the OAS electoral observation department, the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela is in favor of the Maduro government and manipulated the election so that he could remain in power.

Proclamation without data

The OAS presented a report containing evidence that the elections in Venezuela were fraudulent. Among these is the fact that the results took a long time to be released, even though the country has electronic voting machines, and that the CNE did not present the records, which serve to show the number of votes in each polling place. In addition, the data released by official channels contain arithmetic errors. The Organization also highlights other illegalities and illicit practices in this and other elections in the report released.

Together with the OAS, opposition leader Maria Corina Machado stated that they had access to 73% of the votes and that these show that candidate Edmundo González obtained more than twice as many votes as Maduro, in addition to opening a website to publish this data that proves the real result of the votes. What happened shows, once again, that the CNE, its authorities and the Venezuelan electoral system are at the service of the executive power and not of the citizens.”, said the OAS.

Reaction and protests

The Organization finally reports that the result cannot be trusted and recognized without the presentation of all electoral data. Maduro, on the other hand, claims that Venezuela has the most transparent electoral system in the world and that right-wing factions are trying to overthrow him from power.

Protests against Nicolás Maduro's victory and demanding a recount of the votes were held in cities across the country, which are being repressed by local police, leaving dead and injured. This Wednesday (31), the OAS will hold an extraordinary meeting to discuss the Venezuelan political scenario and possible actions that should be taken to guarantee the will of Venezuelan citizens.
