Prime Video includes “The Nun” in its horror catalog

World cinema is going through a phase of renewal in horror films. After a long period of high-budget productions, which focused on grandiose special effects, a key turned to more conceptual and creative productions.

One of the milestones of this new era was the feature film “Hereditary”, by experimental production company A24, which spent its resources on an interesting and at the same time sinister script, which was frightening in the simplicity of its facts. This impact was so great that old horror franchises are being reborn in an attempt to adapt to the new cinema format, an example of this is the “Conjuring” saga. While the new sequel film is still being produced (for mid-2023), a parallel production was launched with the intention of complementing the story universe.

“The Nun” is a film derived from the “Conjuring” franchise, and tells the story of a convent in Romania where a nun committed suicide after being trapped. The Vatican then sends a haunted priest and a novice to investigate the case, and that's when everything starts to go wrong. At the convent, the two risk their lives, their faith and their souls in a saga for answers, discovering an unholy secret and confronting evil forces that take the form of a demonic nun.

The production directed by Corin Hardy and starring Taissa Farmiga (American Horror Story) was released in 2018, but only this Tuesday (27) was it included in the Prime Video catalog. The film had a questionable reception from critics, but was a huge success at the box office, grossing more than 365 million dollars (a lot compared to the budget of 22 million). Considering this, these numbers tend to increase even more on Prime Video, and a sequel is already being developed for September 2023.
