World Rock Day: Rita Lee wins exhibitions in São Paulo subway

The 13th of July is celebrated as “World Rock Day”. And for the celebration to be perfect, the Campo Belo subway station, from ViaMobilidade, Line 5-Lilac, on the intermediate mezzanine floor, hosted an exhibition in honor of our Queen of National Rock, Rita Lee, who died in May of this year, at 75 years old, after complications from lung cancer.

Rita was born in Vila Mariana, in São Paulo, and was a self-confessed lover of the city. So much so that she created many songs and biographical references to the capital. Rita sang, composed, was an actress, multi-instrumentalist, presenter and writer.

And with 20 illustrations from children’s books and unpublished drawings by Guilherme Francini, a designer who collaborated with the singer’s projects, the Sé Metro station also receives a tribute to our rocker, which promises to thrill.

“I call Rita Lee the ‘fairy godmother’ because our partnership started in an unusual way. Having never seen one of my drawings, she asked me: ‘You are going to illustrate my book’. Having never done a professional illustration, I accepted the challenge. I owe my career as an illustrator to Rita”, said Guilherme on his Instagram page.

The event will be at the station until the 13th of August. For the first time, Guilherme’s drawings were printed in panel format, lavishing details.
