Barbieri reveals a scolding at Vasco and leaves Couto Pereira frustrated
Vasco started a draw at Couto Pereira, but pointed out that they expected to win against Coritiba; see what the coach said at the press conference
According to Mauricio Barbieri, a conversation in the locker room was important for Vasco to change its posture from the first to the second half. The coach pointed out that this change contributed to the team improving in the game and being able to put pressure on Coritiba. Even so, the coach was not very satisfied with the 1-1 at Couto Pereira.
“Speaking of the game itself, I think that, depending on the circumstances of the game, it was a satisfactory result, but never a good one, we wanted to go for the victory. I think we played a first half well below what we can produce, and it was one of the topics we talked about at halftime. I think that in the second half we managed, due to the changes in posture and some adjustments, to have a great control of the game. We lacked more finishing, creating more goal opportunities, but we managed to dominate. We scored the goal with merit and I wouldn’t be surprised if we got the second goal. In a general analysis, this is“, he stated.
Some of Barbieri’s irritation is also due to the good results that Vasco achieved against rivals fighting for the top of the table. He cited the matches against Palmeiras, Fluminense and Atlético-MG as examples of what his squad can deliver. Therefore, the coach was a little uncomfortable with the draw at Couto Pereira.
I think we got a very heavy sequence. It is important to remember that Palmeiras only lost two points in the championship, and it went to Vasco. Fluminense couldn’t get past Vasco, we managed to beat Atlético-MG, which is a great team“, vented.
Barbieri also ended his response with a revelation about why he wanted to win against Coritiba: “So, I think it was a difficult sequence, and we have been looking for important points. The expectation was that today we could seek more than we achieved because that would lift us to the top of the table, which is our wish“.
Vasco will return to the field this Sunday, the 14th, at 4 pm (Brasília time) and will be able to count on the support of its fans to try to resume the path of victories in the Brasileirão. This time’s rival will be Santos, who are on the rise at the start of the competition and also dream of a positive result in the match to be held in Rio de Janeiro.
