Amy Schumer explains absence from rehearsals due to son's hospitalization

Amy Schumer revealed that she had to deal with her son's health issues while preparing to host Saturday Night Live last weekend. Schumer, who returned to the studio on Saturday (5), shared with fans what was happening behind the scenes of her SNL appearance in a long post on her Instagram profile last Sunday (6), hours after successfully performing.

The 41-year-old actress and comedian told her fans that her three-year-old son, Gene, was hospitalized the same week as SNL rehearsals, resulting in the “hardest week” of her life and forced her to give up a day of pre-show preparation.

In her post, Amy shared several videos and photos from last week while rehearsing for the comedy show.

“I missed rehearsals on Thursday when my son was rushed to the emergency room and admitted with respiratory syncytial virus,” she wrote in the caption of the publication. “I was with him all day at the hospital and the beautiful humans at @nbcsnl could not have been more supportive. My son is home and doing better.”

The comedian then praised the Saturday Night Live crew, writing: “The reason this show is so much fun to do isn’t really the performance or the show itself. It’s spending time with the people who are there. The cast and the writers, of course, but the people who are behind the scenes making everything run smoothly are my favorite. The crew!”

At the end of her post, Amy Schumer added: “Thank you to everyone and to the doctors and nurses who helped us.”

Amy also shared a photo on Instagram stories of her and little Gene lying in a hospital bed together while watching a video on their phone.

Last Saturday's show (4) marked Amy Schumer's return as host of SNL since 2018. She first hosted the late-night show in 2015 and has made a few guest appearances on the series since then.
