Ajax confirms the arrival of reserve keeper Tyton

Ajax completed the arrival of Przemyslaw Tyton on Monday evening. The keeper comes over transfer-free and signs a contract for the rest of the season in Amsterdam.

Several media reported Tyton’s arrival earlier in the day. Due to the injuries of Maarten Stekelenburg, Remko Pasveer and Jay Gorter, Ajax wanted to add an experienced keeper to the selection. Tyton is preferred over Robbin Ruiter, who also qualified as a reserve goalkeeper.

Ajax will be the third Dutch club for 35-year-old Tyton. The Pole was under contract with Roda JC between 2007 and 2011 and then made the switch to PSV. He played a total of 38 official matches for the Eindhoven team, with which he won the KNVB Cup and the Johan Cruijff Scale.

In 2014 Tyton left for the Spanish Elche CF on a rental basis. After that, the experienced goalkeeper was successively under the bar at VfB Stuttgart, Deportivo La Coruña and FC Cincinnati. He has been without a club since the beginning of this year.

Tyton only in action with injury or suspension Onana

The chance is small that Tyton will keep a match for Ajax this season. André Onana is currently the first goalkeeper due to the long-term injuries of Stekelenburg and Pasveer. Stekelenburg will no longer be in action this season and Pasveer is only expected back in about six weeks.

The talented Gorter, who is making his minutes at Jong Ajax this season, is struggling with a thumb injury. Ajax reported at the end of February that he would not be available for at least two weeks. Trainer Erik ten Hag has the talents Calvin Raatsie and Charlie Setford in addition to Onana and Tyton.

Ajax will continue the competition on Friday with an away match against SC Cambuur (kick-off at 8 p.m.). Four days later, the return against Benfica in the eighth finals of the Champions League awaits in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
