“There are many reasons for this. Firstly, many players only use digital versions. It’s possible to buy a Sony PlayStation 5 without a disc reader, and Microsoft’s Xbox Series S is an all-digital console. It’s not uncommon to release current games exclusively in digital format,” explained Remedy.
“Secondly, not releasing the disc version keeps the game priced at $59.99 / €59.99, and the PC version at $49.99 / €49.99,” he continued. “Ultimately, we didn’t want to ship a disc product that requires a download to play. We don’t think this is a great experience, either.”
As for the explanation regarding the lowest price to make this decision, Alan Wake 2 is actually priced much lower than what we usually see currently being charged for a AAA title, going for R$ 155 on the Epic Games Store, and R$ 187.90 on PS Store and MS Store.
The game will be available on October 17th. More details can be found at this link.
