Botafogo has its first victory in the Libertadores after defeating Universitario

This Wednesday (24), Botafogo hosted Universitario at the Nilton Santos Stadium to play another game in the Libertadores group stage. The Rio team beat the visitors 3-1, with two goals from Eduardo and one from Luiz Henrique, who scored his first goal with the black and white shirt.

First half without goals

The game started with problems for the Alvinegro side. Before the ten minutes of the match, striker Tiquinho Soares felt pain in his right leg and asked to be replaced, which, with the entry of midfielder Eduardo, meant that Botafogo was left without a center forward. In the 13th minute, Junior Santos scored for Glorioso, but the goal was ruled offside due to the player's irregular position.

Halfway through the first half, Universitario had its first clear chance of scoring with a shot in which the ball went wide of the goal, but went out. Even with the Rio club having greater control of the ball and several shots, the first half of the game ended 0-0.

Second half with victory

Still in the first minute of the second half, Eduardo received a pass from Junior Santos on the left side and played it towards the goal, opening the scoring for Botafogo inside Nilton Santos. Just over ten minutes later, 57 minutes into the game, Luiz Henrique hit the goal straight and scored his first for the team, making the second of the match for Alvinegro.

Not satisfied with the two goals, the Botafogo players remained firm in the attack in search of the third, which was achieved almost at the end of the match, scored by Eduardo in stoppage time. Soon after, Christopher Olivares scored for Universitario. The match ended 3-1 for the home club.

Botafogo in Libertadores

With their first victory in the group stage, Botafogo needs to maintain at least a draw in the next game, as they were defeated in the previous two. Glorioso will face LDU on May 8th, at 9:30 pm, at the Nilton Santos Stadium. In case of a positive result, Textor's club has a greater chance of advancing to the next stage of the championship.
