Live action of 'Moana' is The Rock's new project, announces the actor

Dwayne Johnson surprised by announcing, on “The Tonight Show with Kimmy Fallon” this Monday, (13), that his next project is the live-action Moana – Um Mar de Aventuras. After voicing Maui for the animation that premiered in 2016, the actor will bring the character to life in the film.

The Rock also revealed that the director of the Broadway musical “Hamilton”, Thomas Kail, will be directing the film, and that Lin-Manuel Miranda, actor and composer of the musical, will compose all the songs for the new version of the film Moana. “Tommy Kail will direct, and Lin-Manuel Miranda will return to do all the music. Can not wait”, declared the actor.

Despite having voiced the protagonist of the animation, Auli'i Cravalho will not act in the role of Moana. But Dwayne stated that she will be present on the project as an executive producer.

The actor also says that Moana has such an incredible story that resonates with everyone around the world, especially girls, as it empowers them. The film says that “There's what's in front of you and there's the things you can't see that are out there. Have faith and trust in who you are, and go out there, even if you can't see it, and she meets Maui, who helps her see that”, explains The Rock.

In April of this year, Walt Disney Studios released the live-action Moana on its official YouTube channel, announced by Dwayne Johnson. From the island of O'ahu, Hawaii, accompanied by his daughters, the actor announces the project, with a speech full of emotion, remembering the characters and the magic of the film, and points to himself when he talks about the character Maui.

Furthermore, the actor says he found a lot of inspiration for his character in his grandfather, Peter Malvia, as his energy, hair, body and tattoos are similar to Maui's. “In a way, when I bring Maui to life, I do it in the spirit of my grandfather.”. Therefore, with this speech it was already clear that The Rock was already cast for the role.
