With the Paris Olympic Games approaching, fashion has gained a place in the spotlight within Team Brazil. Designed by Riachuelo, the outfit worn by Brazilian athletes during the official opening ceremony was criticized for its simplicity in the midst of the world's biggest event, causing outrage among the public. Amid a flood of complaints, renowned brands in the market created their own versions of the Brazilian uniform.
Valuing culture and a more vibrant color palette
The striped shirt, denim jacket and flared skirt, combined with a pair of flip-flops, did not please the Brazilian public at all, who eagerly awaited the launch of the kit made especially for the opening of the Olympics in Paris. Considered the fashion capital of the world, the City of Lights welcomed around 205 delegations, each with their own style, exalting cultural diversity in fashion as well.
Due to the public's dissatisfaction, three national brands showed their versions of the uniforms. Designed by Kátia Barros, Farm highlighted urbanization with a retro touch. Thomaz Azulay, from The Paradise, had a more tropical approach, bringing a fresh and modern look. Mônica Sampaio, from Santa Resistência, extolled Brazilian tailoring and sustainability.

COB and Riachuelo spoke out
The public's dissatisfaction with the uniforms reached the Brazilian Olympic Committee, which expressed satisfaction with the attire worn by Team Brazil in France. “It's not fashion week in Paris; it's the Paris Olympic Games. Everyone has their own taste, and there's no accounting for taste.”said Paulo Wanderley, president of the COB, during a press conference.
Responsible for making the costumes, Riachuelo also spoke out. According to Cathyelle Schroeder, the pieces went through a series of approvals and the repercussions have been closely monitored. “The creations are submitted for general approval, including from the COB. They are validated by many people. Our role as a brand at this time is to listen, welcome, understand and look forward.“, says Cathyelle.

The main concern from the public was the lack of more elaborate elements for a look that was supposed to represent the country at the world's biggest sporting event. Given the scale of the event, expectations were high on the part of the public. Some delegations wore outfits designed by major brands, such as the United States (Ralph Lauren) and Italy (Emporio Armani).
Around 276 athletes will represent the country throughout the event, in 32 different sports. Brazil is expected to break the medal record from the last edition in Tokyo. At that time, Team Brazil won 21 medals, seven of which were gold.
