CD Projekt Red ends work on Cyberpunk 2077
– All in one GAME updates, New game release, 2024 games, upcoming games, trending games, latest discovery and game reviews.
A CD Projekt Red confirmed that no one at the company is working on Cyberpunk 2077 anymore, marking the end of an era. Ever since the wizards at CDPR started scribbling the first codes in 2012, right after The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, they've had their eye on this futuristic dream.
Is that journey that was it!
When Cyberpunk 2077 finally arrived in 2020, it was a mix of excitement and disappointment. If you had a tuned PC, you could enjoy it just fine. But, on consoles… oh, the consoles. It was like trying to play football with a deflated ball.
The situation got so bad that even the PlayStation and the Xbox started offering refunds. A PlayStation went further and removed the game from the digital store. Classic, right? But CD Projekt Red didn't give up and, with a witch's resilience, released a series of updates that finally saved the homeland.
Cyberpunk 2077 was released in 2020, but the constant need for improvements and work on expansion Phantom Liberty kept the crowd busy until now. However, CD Projekt Red's latest financial report confirmed that no one is moving on Cyberpunk 2077 anymore. Everyone at the company has already moved on to other projects. But calm down, not everything is sadness for Cyberpunk fans.
CD Projekt Red says goodbye to Cyberpunk 2077, but not the Cyberpunk universe
The good news is that 56 brave employees are working on Project Orion, which is basically the codename for the Cyberpunk sequel. It might not seem like a lot of people, but it's because CDPR is putting a lot more energy into a different game that isn't Cyberpunk.
Currently, CD Projekt Red has 407 people immersed in Project Polaris, the codename for the next Witcher game. Ah, The Witcher! We don't know much about the new game, except that it will be made with Unreal Engine 5 and will open a new trilogy. Oh yes! Fans can expect this to be CDPR's next major release, followed by the Cyberpunk sequel. And there's still more to come.
CD Projekt Red is also working on Project Hadara completely new IP, and in Project Sirius, a multiplayer The Witcher game, which is being made in conjunction with The Molasses Flood. And finally, a remake of The Witcher 1 is in development by Fool's Theory, also using Unreal Engine 5. Because who doesn't want to see Geralt in cutting-edge graphics, right?
So, as we say goodbye to Cyberpunk 2077, we look to the future with hope. Maybe it wasn't the game of our dreams, but hey, it gave us laughs, epic memes, and a lesson in how not to release a game. And who knows, the Cyberpunk sequel will really kick ass this time. Until then, let's hunt monsters with Geralt once again. Because, let's face it, CDPR knows how to do this better than anyone else.
