Colombia suspends coal exports to Israel

This Saturday, June 8, the Colombian government suspended the export of coal to Israel and was allegedly motivated by attacks on the Gaza strip. The president of Colombia not only stated that he would no longer supply, but also criticized the attitude of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In posts, he stated that supplies will be suspended until the attacks end and reflected on the deaths of innocent Palestinians. While, Israel, on the other hand, denied the accusations.

Colombia and Israel

Regarding the relationship between the countries, Colombia supplied coal to Israel. Due to the current conflicts in the Gaza Strip, Colombia decided to suspend coal exports until the attacks end once and for all. Until then, if the conflicts do not ease, the agreement and partnership between Colombia and Israel will be broken.

Palestinians

The president of Colombia made his position clear in relation to the attacks against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, stating that he would only resume the supply of coal when the entire conflict between Israel and the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip is resolved. This conflict has been going on for some time, leaving countless victims injured, including people dead, including Palestinians.

In a statement, the Colombian Mining Association commented on the matter: “Israel is a key destination for Colombian thermal coal exports”, claiming that the substance is a strategic resource for the manufacture of weapons. In addition to alleging that these conflicts represent a transgression of the peremptory rule of international law.
