Dior debuts its new Cruise 2024 collection in Mexico

Not even the rain was able to stop the debut of the new Dior collection. Last Saturday, May 20, to the sound of Mexican rhythms sung by women. The models that walked the Dior Cruise 2024 collection presented to the nearly 600 guests everything that creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri took as inspiration for this new season.

The stylist brought masculine tailoring sets to the presentation, but softened with embroidery and fauna and flora accessories. The butterfly, for example, was one of the symbols adopted to be part of the collection. The collection was also influenced by local characters such as feminist artist Frida Kahlo.

“Everyone looks at Frida’s iconic artwork in a superficial way, but her life is amazing because she explored her relationship with her body and her clothes. She was very aware of what she was doing at the time. Frida talked about limitations and about creating his new identity many years ago, in the 1930s and 1940s”, Maria Grazia spoke about her inspiration from Frida Kahlo.

Maria Grazia was keen to honor Dior’s relationship with Mexico. This relationship has a very rich history, combining Christian Dior’s love of travel around the world and foreign cultures, which has a strong influence on his early collections. One of his first dresses was baptized with the name “Mexico”, for example.

In minimalist palettes, with the few colors used in specific ethnic patterns, the collection favored shapes, more classic than futuristic, always with a twist. The short coats and wide pants, which value a lot of movement and comfort as much as the skirts.

The show ended with a procession of models dressed in white, followed by Maria Grazia herself, who received all the applause she deserved after creating a collection full of history, culture and art.
