British singer Elton John received his first Oscar nomination Emmy this Wednesday (12) for the documentary “Elton John: The Farewell Show”, from Disney+. But the nomination is even more special, because, if he wins, the singer will become the 19th EGOT. The term is used to designate people who have won the four main awards: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar It is Tony.

In 2022, American actress Viola Davis became the 18th EGOT after winning the Grammy for the audiobook “Finding Me”.

At 76, Elton John won his first Grammy in 1986 for best vocal performance in “That’s What Friends Are For” and accumulated four more statuettes later. In 1995, the singer won the Oscar for the soundtrack to “The Lion King” and best original song with “Can You Fell the Love Tonight?”. More recently, in 2020, “I'm Gonna Love Me Again”from his biography “Rocketman” took the Oscar of the category. In 2000, he won the Tony Awards for the soundtrack of the musical “Aida”.

This year's Emmy-nominated documentary captured the last show of the tour Farewell Yellow Brick Road, In Los Angeles. The show was the singer's farewell to the North American public. With a final stop in Stockholm, Sweden, the tour also ended the musician's 50-year career.

After the nomination, Elton John gave an interview to Portal EW where he thanked him for the Academy's recognition. “My final performance at Dodger Stadium was bittersweet and a night I will never forget. My team at Rocket Entertainment, the talented Fulwell 73 and everyone at Disney+ went above and beyond to create a magical production, not just for me, but for my fans around the world to enjoy for years to come.”, he stated. While fans eagerly await September 18th, when the Emmy awards take place, they can check out the singer's biographical film “Rocketman”. The film is available on the main streaming platforms, directed by Dexter Fletcher and the brilliant Taron Egerton in the lead role.
