Former Manchester United coach reveals problems with CR7: “It didn’t work…”

Despite all the excitement upon arrival, the second passage of Cristiano Ronaldo for the Manchester United created many internal problems and left coaches dissatisfied. One of them was Ole Gunnar Solskjaerteam commander between 2019 and 2021, who revealed that he had had problems with the Portuguese star.

“When he arrived at the club, he told me to start him in three straight games, and then as a substitute in the fourth game. But he's so passionate that he didn't like it when I did it”, he commented to the “Stick the Football” podcast about some behind-the-scenes details of the club at the time mentioned.

Afterwards, the change in the team's playing style with and without the number 7 was also addressed and explained by the Norwegian: “When the team had the ball, there was no problem. But without him under pressure, we had to change the roles we were used to a little. We were one of the teams with the most pressure before.”

Closing the matter, Solskjaer also mentioned what it was like to make the decision for Ronaldo to return to the club: “Hiring him was a very quick decision. When it became clear that he was leaving Juventus, I was excited. The club asked if I wanted them to try, I said yes. It didn't work out for me or Cristiano, but it was the right decision at that moment.”

While Solskjaer is currently working on performance analysis at UEFA, Cristiano Ronaldo migrated to Saudi Arabia at the beginning of 2023, where he plays for Al Nassr to this day. According to his wife, the veteran should retire after one or two more seasons.
