Hulk decides and Atlético-MG defeats Corinthians at Arena MRV

On Sunday night (28), Atlético-MG and Corinthians faced each other at Arena MRV, in Belo Horizonte, in an exciting match valid for the 20th round of the Brazilian Championship.

With two penalty goals, Hulk shines and Atlético Mineiro defeats Corinthians 2-1, the Corinthians goal was scored by Yuri Alberto.

How was the duel?

In the first few minutes, the teams failed to create chances that would trouble the goalkeepers, focusing on intermediate passes. Atlético-MG's first dangerous chance came from Bernard, who, after a good play combined with Paulinho, finished for a save by the opposing goalkeeper.

Corinthians, in turn, tried to escape with Yuri Alberto, but were also unable to convert their attacks into clear finishes.

In the 15th minute, the visitors almost opened the scoring. In a good play, Ángel Romero lost the ball and, with the goal wide open, wasted a great opportunity.

Corinthians' number 9 was definitely the sharpest player. From the edge of the area, Yuri Alberto shot, and Matheus Mendes prevented what would have been the first goal.

At 32 minutes, in a free kick, the referee awarded a penalty after a handball by Rodrigo Garro. Hulk took the penalty and opened the scoring: Atlético-MG 1 to 0 Corinthians.

Corinthians, not feeling the goal, went forward and managed to equalize, Garro crossed into the area free of marking Yuri Alberto headed inside the area making Atlético-MG 1-1 Corinthians.

The second half started lively, with Atlético-MG goalkeeper Matheus Mendes being the star of the show. He made three important saves, preventing Corinthians from increasing the score. First, he masterfully saved a shot from Ryan, and then he stopped two dangerous shots from Yuri Alberto.

On the other hand, Galo had good opportunities with Hulk, in one of which Hugo Souza made a good save. Without space, Atlético exchanged many passes in the midfield, Corinthians closed in and escaped on the counterattacks, taking advantage of the passing errors of Atlético players.

At 39 minutes Paulinho is fouled inside the area, the referee awards a penalty, Hulk again takes responsibility, the number 7 with class takes the shot, the ball goes one way and the goalkeeper goes the other way Atlético-MG 2-1 Corinthians.

Corinthians went all out to try to at least equalize the score, but the referee allowed eight more minutes of regular time, which was not enough for the São Paulo team to reverse the score built by Atlético Mineiro. This was the first defeat for Timão since the arrival of its commander Ramón Díaz.

Classification and Key Turn

With the score, the home team reached 28 points in 9th place, while Corinthians, outside the relegation zone, has 19 points and is in 15th place in the national competition.

Atlético Mineiro returns to the field next Wednesday (31), when they will face CRB in the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil. On the same day, Corinthians will host Grêmio, seeking to advance in the competition.
