RB Leipzig in final minute extension

RB Leipzig has reached the final of the DFB-Pokal for the second time in three years. Werder Bremen was beaten 1-2 on Friday by a goal in the very last minute of extra time.

The team of future Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann will take on Borussia Dortmund or Holstein Kiel in the 2. Bundesliga in the final in Berlin on 13 May. Those teams will face each other on Saturday evening.

The semi-final between Werder Bremen and RB Leipzig ended in a spectacular way, after not much had happened initially. The home team thought it would get a penalty in the first half, but this decision was reversed on the advice of the VAR.

It wasn’t until the third minute of extra time that Leipzig broke open the game when Hwang Hee-chan got the ball in front of his feet with some luck and finished coolly. Ten minutes later Leonardo Bittencourt, who took advantage of a blunder by Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, tied the score.

Penalty’s seemed to make the decision, but Leipzig struck in the very last minute of extra time. On a pass from Hwang, Swedish substitute Emil Forsberg scored with a nice volley.

Leipzig can win the DFB Pokal for the first time in club history in two weeks. Two years ago, the team was in the final battle against Bayern Munich and then lost 3-0. The twenty-time cup winner went down sensationally in the second round this season against Holstein Kiel.
