The German team wants to use the strength of its fans at Euro 2024 to reverse a decade of bad results

The German football team hopes to change the tide of negative results with the “field control” of Euro 2024, which takes place in Germany itself. The competition, which starts next Friday (14), will feature the German team itself, hosts of the competition, in its first match, where it will face the Scottish team, at 4pm.

The German team hopes to use the strength of its fans to boost the positive results that have been long awaited since winning four times at the 2014 World Cup.

That year's campaign was incredible and left German fans hopeful for future years. But the victories never came. In fact, what arrived was even worse than some defeats: they were shameful.

With the debut against the Scottish team, the first of the competition, next Friday (14), at 4 pm (Brasília time), the German public is eager to break some paradigms that go beyond the decade of bad results , Germany has not been victorious in a Euro Cup for 28 years.

Despite this, there is some distrust in the German team. And it obviously comes from the team's recent history, such as the 6-0 defeat to Spain in 2020, or the crushing 4-1 defeat to Japan, which eliminated the, until then, German coach Hansi Flick, in 2023, in a friendly match.

Furthermore, the early eliminations in the last World Cups, in particular, the exit in the group stage in Russia and Qatar, make German fans tremble.

Opposing opinions

The fans' distrust also affects, in a certain way, the team's own players. And it is the four-time world champion, Toni Kross, now 34 years old, who assesses the situation of the German team quite coldly, but with a hint of distrust in his speech.

“I think it's necessary to find out why a group of such good players couldn't convert this into results as a team. It's the key issue, but it hasn't just been an issue in tournaments, but in other games. We need to find how to balance as a team. Sometimes it's about the best group, not the best players. We are trying to adjust this to get back on the path to success”, highlighted the German midfielder, in a comment for UEFA.

However, what for some is a basic distrust, there are those who believe that the simple presence of fans will make the team suffer from greater pressure and not earn enough.

However, there is always a positive view of things. For a large portion of the fans, this is what the Germany team needs: human warmth and the screams of the fans, to push them towards good results.
