May is that wonderful month in which PlayStation decides to bombard its subscribers with a mix of futuristic nostalgia and new features that make you wonder if you haven't already played something similar on an SNES or Mega Drive. Let’s unpack these “new” titles that promise to revolutionize your PlayStation world… or just take up space on your HD.
EA Sports FC 24: Because You Can Never Too Much Football, Right?
We start with the “groundbreaking” EA Sports FC 24, because apparently, it's an annual tradition to re-release the same game with a fresh coat of digital paint. Get ready to feel the excitement of football with HyperMotionV (which sounds more like a new vitamin than a gaming technology)PlayStyles optimized by Opta, and the “improved” Frostbite engine.
With 19,000 licensed players and more stats than a high school math book, it's a dream for any football fan who loves numbers more than actually watching the game. At least Haaland is in the place, which theoretically should ALWAYS be.
Ghostrunner 2: Run, Jump, and Don't Get Hit
Next, we have Ghostrunner 2, for those who thought the first game didn't have enough deaths per second. This sequel promises the same frenetic first-person platforming action, but now with complex motorcycle sections that will probably make you miss the simple days of “Road Rash” on Mega Drive. Oh, and of course, there are new modes for when you get tired of dying the same way over and over again.
Tunic: The Love Triangle Between Zelda, Dark Souls and an Art Book
Tunic is the answer to the question: what would happen if a Zelda of the 16-bit era had an affair with Dark Souls and was illustrated by an artist who really loves details? Explore dark forests, vast ruins, and labyrinthine catacombs in an adventure that is as beautiful as it is brutal. Get ready to collect pages from a manual that's just as useful as those old tricks guides that never worked as promised.
Destiny 2: Lightfall – Why Space Needs DLCs Too
And, of course, we couldn't forget to Destiny 2: Lightfallthe expansion that takes the Guardians to Neptune, where you can find a neon metropolis that looks straight out of a discarded episode of “Tron.” New rewards, obscure new powers, and the chance to fly between buildings at speeds that would make Superman feel inadequate. It's basically everything you expected, but with more shine.
Bonus: Ultimate Team Pack to Really Feel the Weight of Microtransactions
And as a bonus for digital football players, we have the Ultimate Team Starter pack that ensures you'll start your journey with players almost good enough to not need spend real money… yet. But who are we kidding? We know you will spend.
Conclusion: More of the Same, But Still Fun
So as you prepare for a May full of “news” on PS Plus, remember that at its core, everything is just a variation on something we've played before – but that doesn't mean we can't have fun discovering it. Grab your controller, ignore the feeling of déjà vu, and dive into these “new” classics. After all, who needs innovation when you have comfort? At least you, a subscriber to the service, know that you won't need to spend so much money on new games. Lie, you will spend it.
