Convicted, Trump can run and be US president again
Even after being convicted, former President Trump can still run for the US presidency. He was convicted of sexual abuse and defamation against the writer E. Jean Carroll, and will still have to disburse an amount of US$ 5 million in punitive and compensatory damages.
The writer alleged that Donald Trump raped her in 1990, and years later he defamed her, as soon as she made the accusation public.
The former president denies all accusations, but has not defended himself and has not testified. Trump said the writer “not his type” and accused her of making up these stories in order to increase sales and profitability of her book.

Trump is also accused of bribery by porn star Stormy Daniels on the eve of the 2016 election.
He will run for president on the Republican side, says University of California law professor Richard Hasen. “Nothing prevents Trump from running while he is indicted, or even convicted,” said the teacher.
Below you can understand a little more about the constitution of the United States of America:
- In the US, the constitution requires 3 criteria to be eligible they are:
- Be at least 35 years old;
- Be established in the United States for at least 14 years;
- Citizen born in the USA.
- Other than these criteria above, nothing else is required for a defendant to run for president.
However, this accusation could affect Trump in the vote and he may no longer vote for himself. In the United States, to be more exact in 22 states, when a person is arrested, that person loses the right to vote, but will be able to exercise his right to vote again as soon as he is released.
In a poll released last Thursday, it showed that Trump has the support of 54% of the Republican’s voters, against 24% of his rival.
