Corinthians fans protest in front of the hotel and players return to the capital

After stoppage of Brazilian championship on account of FIFA date, the games return on Wednesday (21). In the videos circulated on social networks, it is possible to see the crowd around the bus, with firecrackers and shouting “let’s play football” It is “either play for love or play for terror”. Faced with this situation, the squad spent more than an hour inside the bus waiting for the police to arrive, and the board decided to return to the capital of São Paulo, caring for the safety of the players.

The club has been in a bad phase since 2020. Several technicians took charge of the team, but none were able to continue the work, given negative results that did not please the fans. The last title won by the team was the Paulistan in 2019, against rival São Paulo. Corinthians is 16th in the Brazilian Championship table, and in the first rounds the team was in the relegation zone. Because of these factors and the risk of seeing their team relegated again, the fans’ patience with the Corinthians squad is decreasing more and more.

In 2022, the club’s results in classics are negative. With a total of 12 matches for all championships, the team had seven defeats, three draws and only two wins. This is Corinthians’ worst performance in classics since 2016.

In the history of the confrontation, the advantage in the classic alvinegro belongs to Corinthians with 136 wins, 111 defeats and 101 draws. Winning the game this Wednesday (21) against Santos can bring relief to the fans and confidence for the players, who already have their next appointment scheduled on Saturday, at home, against Athletico Paranaensea match that will be valid for the 12th round of the championship.
