Daylight saving time in the USA causes changes to B3’s opening hours

Since November, Ibovespa has adopted extended opening hours from 10am to 5:55pm, in line with daylight saving time in the United States and Canada. Additionally, the after market, a trading period outside regular trading hours, now operates from 5:30 pm to 6 pm. In the northern hemisphere, Wall Street will operate from 10:30 am to 5 pm (Brasília time).

From March 11th, B3 will maintain futures market trading at extended hours, with Ibovespa futures contracts and mini-contracts (IND and WIN) operating until 6:25 pm, and commercial dollar futures contracts and mini-contracts (DOL and WDO ) until 6:30 pm.

The Brazilian stock exchange also announced studies for the operation of the “night trading”, mainly involving the trading of bitcoin (BTC) futures contracts, with the possibility of launching a “night market” operating between 6:30 pm and 9:45 pm, offering investors the opportunity to trade assets after conventional opening hours, which run from 10 am to 6 pm.

Adaptation of B3

B3 follows Wall Street time and adjusts its operations according to events in the United States. This is due to the predominance of the dollar in negotiations, given the country’s economic relevance. Since the end of daylight saving time in Brazil in 2019, the national stock exchange has extended its opening hours from November to March, opening at 10am and closing at 5:55pm. Daylight saving time in the US runs from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November.
