Debuting in the Libertadores, Botafogo is defeated by Junior Barranquilla

On Wednesday night (03), Botafogo and Junior Barranquilla faced each other for the first time in history in the Libertadores debut, at the Nilton Santos Stadium, at 7pm Brasília time. The Colombian club, with an advantage from the first moments of the game, came away with the victory over the Rio team, which is returning to the Libertadores in 2024, where it had not played since 2017.

First half with goals

The match started with a shot by Tiquinho Soares, two minutes into the game, which was saved by the opposing goalkeeper. In the 10th minute, a penalty was awarded to Junior Barranquilla, who had the score opened by the player Bacca, in the 12th. In the 21st minute of the game, Junior Santos crossed for Savarino, who tried to score, but Santiago, the Colombian club's goalkeeper, defended. At 24, another submission from Alvinegro, now from defender Lucas Halter.

With 28 minutes running, Fuentes extends the score for Junior Barranquilla, and 12 minutes later, at 40, Bacca scores his second goal and, consequently, the Colombian team's third. At the end of the first half, with 43 minutes played, Hugo scores for Alvinegro. The first half ends 3-1 for Junior Barranquilla.

Second time

In the second half of the game, Botafogo acted more frequently in attacks compared to the first half, starting with a shot from Hugo in the 48th minute. At 84, Tchê Tchê also tried to finish, but the ball went out. Without any other goals, the game ended with the score that had already been defined at the end of the first half.

Botafogo in the table

With the result of the first game, Alvinegro finds itself in last place, without any points. The leader of the group D table is Junior Barranquilla, followed by Universitario, a team from Peru, who beat LDU on Tuesday (02). The Rio club's next game will be against LDU, away from home.
