For the first time in history, UN approves ceasefire in Gaza

This Monday (25), Hamas celebrated the approval of a UN resolution. The resolution calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, demands an immediate end to hostilities between Israel and the armed group, in addition to the release of hostages. 14 votes were voted in favor, with one abstention from the United States, as a result of which Israel canceled its visit to Washington in reaction to the occasion of the resolution. The United States government found the country's reaction “somewhat exaggerated”.

Washington criticizes Israel

Washington has expressed concern about the increase in civilian casualties in Gaza. Criticism has intensified due to the recent conflicts between Israel and Palestine. The international community is pressing for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further deaths. More than 32 thousand people, mainly women and children, were killed by Israeli bombings. The indiscriminate violence caused an unprecedented humanitarian tragedy in the region, leading Israel and Palestine to an “endless” war.

UN accuses Israel

The UN accuses Israel of hindering the delivery of humanitarian aid, while Israel accuses the UN of allegedly not distributing supplements correctly. The war began on October 7 last year, when Hamas attacked Israel, resulting in the deaths of around 1,200 people according to Israel and 253 hostages in Gaza. Israel launched a counterattack in Gaza, resulting in more than 25,000 deaths. Gaza's infrastructure was severely damaged and 85% of the population was displaced
