De Graafschap keeps the chance of promotion to the Eredivisie in its own hands despite a draw. The club from Doetinchem lost 2 points in the away match against SC Cambuur (1-1), which is already certain of the title of the Kitchen Champion Division.

De Graafschap took the lead by an own goal from Michael Breij, who worked a bet by Ted van de Pavert behind his own goalkeeper. Giovanni Korte equalized for SC Cambuur, much to the amusement of the supporters who, just like last week in the Eredivisie, were limited welcome at the duels in the first division.

Almere City won the home game against Young Ajax (1-0), thanks to a goal by John Yeboah. Brian Brobbey missed a penalty for Young Ajax. The striker shot so high that the ball went out of the stadium. The club from Almere narrowed the gap on De Graafschap, placed second, to 4 points, with two more rounds to go. Go Ahead Eagles will equal Almere City in points on Sunday when it beats Helmond Sport in its own stadium.

De Graafschap will ensure promotion to Eredivisie next week if it beats Young Ajax. The club will close the regular competition in a week and a half with a home game against Helmond Sport.

As champion, SC Cambuur is already certain of a place in the Eredivisie for the next season. The club from Leeuwarden seemed on its way to promotion last season, just like De Graafschap, until the season was interrupted prematurely due to corona. The KNVB decided not to promote clubs to the Eredivisie.

The numbers 1 and 2 of the first division promote directly to the Eredivisie. The numbers 3 to 8 have a chance in the play-offs to win a ticket for the highest football league of next season. These are based on the current ranking Almere City, Go Ahead Eagles, NAC Breda, NEC, FC Volendam and Roda JC.
