After seizing the Arena, Grêmio expressed itself this Wednesday, the 14th, on the decision of the Justice of São Paulo with the lawsuit filed by the banks Banrisul, Banco do Brasil and Santander. In an official note, the club from Rio Grande do Sul mentioned that it is not part of the process and guaranteed that games will be held in its stadium.
“The Club informs that this is a matter that has been closely monitored by the current management, by internal and external lawyers designated to deal specifically with the matter”, wrote the club in the statement.
It is important to emphasize that Grêmio is not a party to this process and that it has the right to receive the Arena free and clear of any encumbrances”, says the other part of the note.
This Tuesday, the 13th, the courts of São Paulo decided to seize the Arena do Grêmio. The decision was taken by the judge Adriana Cardoso dos Reis, and occurred after the request of the banks financing the construction, which charge the payment of the club’s debt, which reaches more than R$ 200 million.
The banks in question are Santander, Banrisul and Banco do Brasil, and the lawsuit filed by them also cites Arena Porto Alegrense, which manages the stadium, Karagounis, a company controlled by an investment fund linked to Caxias, and OAS Empreendimentos . Despite this, the procedure is not so simple.
Even with the conviction applied, the process can still be appealed, which was promised by Arena Porto Alegrense in a released note. In the statement, the company placed the attachment as a “technical procedure inherent to the process” and that only 8% of the attachment can be used to pay the debt, by contract.
