In Endrick's last Choque-Rei, São Paulo and Palmeiras draw goalless at MorumBis

On Monday night (29), São Paulo hosted Palmeiras at MorumBis, in the 4th round of the Brazilian Championship. With more than 50 thousand São Paulo fans present, the two teams played out a goalless draw, in a match in which the chances were minimal.

O “Choque-Rei”, which was probably Endrick's last wearing the Palmeiras shirt, was highlighted by the competitiveness of the two teams. Both teams had chances to open the scoring, but two defenses were prevailing against the attacks.

The classic started before the ball even rolled, because São Paulo's Football Director, Carlos Belmonte, welcomed the Palmeiras delegation so he could speak to Abel Ferreira, after confusion in the last match between the two teams for Paulistão. On that occasion, the São Paulo native offended the Portuguese player and today he apologized in person.

1st Balanced Half

São Paulo and Palmeiras had a first half with few defensive errors and few scoring chances. The big chance in the first half came from Palmeiras, in the 26th minute, after a corner kick from Raphael Veiga and a beautiful header from captain Gustavo Gómez, who stopped the great save from goalkeeper Rafael, preventing the visitors from opening the scoring.

2nd Half

After the break, Palmeiras came back more effective than São Paulo, looking for spaces and trying to open gaps in the Tricolor marking and they succeeded. After 10 minutes, after a mistake by defender Arboleda, young Endrick stole the ball inside the area and passed it to Lázaro, who had just entered, who with the goal open shot, but stopped in the penalty area. “defense” by Alisson who avoided Verdão's goal.

Palmeiras taboo in the tricolor house

With this draw, Palmeiras maintains the Tabu against São Paulo in the Brasileirão at MorumBis. The last Tricolor triumph in their domains for the national team was in 2017, in a 2-0 victory. During the period, there were seven games at the São Paulo stadium with four draws and three victories for Palmeiras.

With the score equal, São Paulo was in 14th place in the Brasileirão, with four points, while Palmeiras reached five points and ended the round in 12th place.

Upcoming games

Now São Paulo travels to Pará to face Águia de Marabá, in the Copa do Brasil, next Thursday (05/02), at 7:30 pm. Palmeiras, in turn, will not need to go that far, just to Ribeirão Preto, to face Botafogo-SP, also in the national competition, on the same day as Tricolor, at 9:30 pm.
