Increases to 37 thousand children vaccinated against dengue after bringing forward the vaccine in Rio

Rio de Janeiro City Hall announced, last Tuesday (27), the anticipation of the vaccination schedule against dengue for children aged 10 to 11 years. With the action, the number of children vaccinated rose and reached 37.5 vaccinated.Â

According to the Secretary of Health of Rio de Janeiro, Daniel Soranz's, with this advance, it was possible to reach 26% of the target of 140 thousand children who did not receive the dose of the vaccine.Â

According to the Health Department (SES-RJ), the capital of Rio de Janeiro is experiencing one of the worst periods of dengue cases in history. Until March 1st, the state registered 82,420 suspected cases of the disease and 14 registered deaths, which led the government to declare an epidemic.

To increase the number of children vaccinated, the Municipal Health Department held this Saturday (2) D-day, with actions aimed at children aged 10 to 11 years old in combat To the disease in Rio de Janeiro.Â

During the mobilization, there were educational activities to combat the Aedes aegypti mosquito and also vaccination.

In Rio, still due to the increase in cases, another 60 neighborhoods were targets of actions by the Municipal Health Secretariat (SMS), with environmental surveillance inspections, both in private and public areas, in addition mass distribution of information on the necessary precautions against mosquitoes.Â

The dengue vaccine is available in the city's 238 Primary Care units.
