Iran attacks Israel with drones and long-range missiles and increases tension between the two countries

This Saturday (13), Iran began its offensive and launched more than 300 drones and missiles against Israel, in response to the Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy in Syria at the beginning of the month. The attack by the Israeli government was a severe blow to the organization, due to the death of 7 fighters from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. Among those killed was Mohammad Reza Zahedi, leader of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard's operations.

The threats of a retaliation against Israel mobilized internal security forces and allies around the world. Israeli security forces issued a red alert for a possible attack in the last few hours. Schools were closed across the country and events with crowds were cancelled. The GPS system was turned off to make drone action difficult. The curfew will remain in place until Monday night or if there is an imminent threat of an attack.

Threats of retaliation between the two countries have intensified in recent days, especially after the attack on the Iranian embassy in Syria. On the one hand, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, head of Hezbollah, which supports Iran, encouraged retaliation, on the other, Netanyahu, emphasizing that they are prepared for any counterattack. The global fear is that the escalation of terror will also spread among allied countries, which have great military potential to finance this war and start others.

Historical rivalry between Israel and Iran

The relationship between Israel and Iran had been friendly for some time, everything began to take a new direction when the ayatollahs took power in 1979.

With the implementation of a new regime of the ayatollahs, the relationship with Israel cooled and until the recognition of an Israeli state was revised, the Israeli embassy in Tehran was invaded and ceded to the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization), which operates strongly against the State of Israel and its allies.

After the last attack, Iranian leaders spoke out, saying that Israel would be the “little Satan” and the United States would be the “great Satan”, statements that encourage hatred and, on the other hand, expose the vulnerable population to the consequences of a war .

Israel accused the ayatollahs of anti-Semitism and of financing terrorist acts against its interests.

War and offensive potential of each

Iran has great military power and is one of the largest in the Middle East, the country has invested in recent years in precision missiles, capable of hitting targets at long distances, including Israel. Iran has an army that is three times larger than Israel. Their nuclear program has developed a lot, and they already have almost enough material to make a nuclear weapon.

An Iranian missile can reach Israel in 12 minutes, kamikaze drones can take up to 9 hours to reach their target.

Israel, on the other hand, has 90 nuclear warheads, ready to be used at any time. The Israeli government is concerned about the possibility of Iran having a nuclear weapon; with the Ayatollahs' regime, the threat would be constant.
