Singer-songwriter Jorge Aragão, 74, has been diagnosed with cancer. According to information given by the artist’s advisory this Saturday (15), the disease was detected after an exam report.
The type of cancer that affects the sambista is a non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) and, according to INCA (National Cancer Institute), it is a disease that originates in the cells of the lymphatic system and spreads in a disorderly way.

According to information from INCA, there are more than 20 different types of NHL and its main symptom is enlargement of the lymph nodes, which is revealed by the appearance of lumps in regions of the body such as the neck, groin and armpits. Other symptoms may involve coughing, night sweats, fever, weight loss and itchy skin.
The institute also estimates that between that year and 2025 around 12,040 new cases of the disease will be diagnosed in Brazil, 6,420 in men and 5,620 in women.
Also according to the press office, Jorge Aragão will immediately start treatment with the follow-up of hematologist Caroline Rebello and said that the composer of “The show has to continue” remains confident and counting on the support of friends and fans.
Career:
Jorge Aragão da Cruz, popularly known as Jorge Aragão, was born in Padre Miguel, in Rio de Janeiro, on March 1, 1949 and is a singer, composer, sambista and instrumentalist. Owner of great successes, Jorge saw his songs being interpreted by artists such as Alcione, Zeca Pagodinho, Ivone Lara, Martinho da Vila, among other interpreters of Brazilian music.
The carioca also became part of the pagode group “Fundo de Quintal” and even recorded the first LP as part of the band’s body, however, he soon left the group to pursue a solo career. In 2016, Cantou received the “Order of Cultural Merit” award.
