Jorge Sampaoli is the new coach of Flamengo

Jorge Sampaoli is 63 years old and has been without a club since he was fired from the command of the sevilla from Spain last month, the coach accumulates successes for the University of Chilewhere he won the Copa Sudamericana in 2011.

Afterwards, the Argentine coached the Chile national team, including playing for the 2014 World Cup here in Brazil, being eliminated precisely against the Brazilian Team in the Round of 16 of the tournament. The following year he was champion of the Copa America beating none other than their Argentine compatriots. Chile defeated Messi and company, becoming champion of the continental tournament.

Outside the South American continent, in 2016 he had his first experience in the same Sevilla where he had trained, but it was a very short passage.

In 2017 Sampaoli took over the Argentina national teamhaving ranked in the last round of 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Qualifiers, during the tournament there were many problems with the players, with that the brothers had a bad campaign in the World Cup and ended up falling against France. After the elimination, Sampaoli stepped down.

This will be his third visit to Brazil. The first was in 2019, for Santos, where he was runner-up in Brazil, behind Jorge Jesus’ Flamengo. In 2020 he trained Atlético MG, in both jobs they were marked by his agitation, also with an explosive style, and mainly by the charges and demand for reinforcements.

Jorge Sampaoli, was considered a plan B, and was always a preference of director Rodolfo Landim, who always admired his work.
