Kanye West's 'Donda' reached 1.5 billion streams on Spotify

DondaKanye West's tenth studio album, reached the mark of one and a half billion streams on Spotify.

The album, released on August 29, 2021, was named and produced as a tribute to Kanye's mother, Donda West, who passed away in 2007 as a result of complications during plastic surgery.

The album, composed of twenty-seven tracks, features the participation of big names in the music industry, such as The Weeknd (Hurricane), Kid Cudi (Moon) and Jay Z (Jail).

Donda had its release date postponed repeatedly and was presented to the public through three large live shows, called listening partiestwo in Atlanta and one in Chicago, between July and August 2021. The performances featured renowned artists and concepts that reference the rapper's history, such as a replica of the house where Kanye lived when he was a child.

In addition to highlighting his mother's influence on tracks such as Donda Chant It is Junya, West introduces recordings of her voice into other songs, such as Praise God It is Donda, including preaching by her, which also demonstrates references and manifestations of Kanye West's faith, a prominent theme in the rapper's previous works, such as the album JESUS ​​IS KING (2019).

The rapper, who legally changed his name to Ye, is currently releasing a trilogy in partnership with Netflix that documents his career over the last twenty-one years. The first episode of Jeen-Yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy is now available on the streaming service.
