Marcius Melhem case: Understand controversy involving new prosecutor

What happened after a meeting that the plaintiffs’ lawyers had with the prosecution? (…) They were also received in Brasilia. (…) They even took a camera, documentary people. All disclosed in advance, with photos and videos of each meeting. Why was their meeting with the attorney general hidden, since it was republican?”, he questioned.

In the same broadcast, he also revealed that he believes that Isabela can “make him a defendant” following the case. “He is not the first person who will go into action predisposed to accuse me. They usually read and leave. Why doesn’t anyone give an order, which would be the archive? The truth is that the pressure is very high”, said Marcius.

However, the public ministry stated that the meeting did indeed take place, but it was not secret. “There was no secret meeting regarding the case, which is under investigation in a police investigation. The meeting was formalized at the request of the Victim Support Center (NAV/MP-RJ), a body that promotes the connection of victims with prosecutors and that requested a hearing of the attorney general with the numerous victims. They requested speed in the analysis by the institution,” said the official statement.

In addition, the agency confirmed that there was no inconsistency in the choice of the new prosecutor. “The designation was made based on the laws and internal regulations, which grant such powers to the PGJ, with no violation of the natural prosecutor”, she alleged.

The defense of the women’s group that accuses Melhem took a position on the matter. “The case brings together almost two dozen people, men and women, including victims and witnesses, and will be a great example of the response that Justice can give to society in cases of sexual harassment. We understand and respect that the process has its own time, but we trust the Brazilian Judiciary so that, two and a half years after the opening of the inquiry, this answer comes soon, at the height of what an emblematic case like this requires for the victims and for society ”.
