Palmeiras fights for an unprecedented feat in history; understand

O Palm trees returned to win a third state championship after 90 years, with the title against Santos this season. However, Verdão can seek a sequence of trophies that has never happened in its history: the third championship of Brasileirão. Current two-time champion, the team led by Abel Ferreira can achieve an unprecedented feat.

Despite being the biggest winner of the Brazilian Championship, with 12 titles won, Palmeiras never amended a sequence of three consecutive victories. Verdão, before Abel's arrival, had been two consecutive champions of the Brasileirão on two occasions, in 1972 and 1973 and in 1993 and 1994.

In 1967, Palmeiras was champion of the Brazil Cupa competition played in the first semester, and later won the Roberto in the final half of the year. Even though they are different disputes, both achievements count as Brazilian Championship trophies, after the unification of the titles. Thus, this can be considered Verdão's first two-time championship.

Therefore, 29 years after the last two, Palmeiras once again lifted the Brasileirão cup for two consecutive seasons. However, if the team led by Abel Ferreira repeats the 2022 and 2023 campaigns, Verdão could achieve an unprecedented feat in its history, which only two clubs have achieved in Brazilian football.

The first three-time Brazilian champion was Santos, which didn't stop there. With a star-studded team, but with its main highlight being Edson Arantes do NascimentoO SkinPeixão won the championships in 1961, 1962 and 1963. However, in the following two seasons, the team from São Paulo continued to win and became the only four- and five-time consecutive champions in history.

More than 40 years after Santos' penta, another Palmeiras rival promoted hegemony in Brazilian football: São Paulo. Commanded by Muricy Ramalho, Tricolor Paulista won the titles in 2006, 2007 and 2008, and remains the only three consecutive champion in the points race era. However, Verdão can equal the end of the 2024 Brazilian Championship.
