The next game in the StarCraft franchise looks like it’s on the way. According to Windows Central journalist Jez Corden, StarCraft 3 is in development at Blizzard.
In a response to a Twitter follower about whether Microsoft would revive StarCraft if it manages to buy Activision Blizzard, Corden said that need not happen.
“(Microsoft) won’t need to revive StarCraft,” Corden said. Then another user specifically asked if he was talking about StarCraft 3 and if Corden knew anything about it, and he replied with just one word: “Yes”.
StarCraft 2, the last game in the franchise, was released 13 years ago and won two expansions, with the last one coming out in 2015. Since then, Blizzard hasn’t said anything about the series, preferring to focus on Overwatch and Diablo.
It’s worth remembering that this year we’ll have the return of in-person BlizzCon in November, so this could be a perfect time for Blizzard to announce the game, if it’s actually working on it.
