President Lula guarantees the permanence of Nísia Trindade in the Ministry of Health and faces pressure from the centrão

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Wednesday (5) that Nísia Trindade will remain at the Ministry of Health until she wishes. The president spoke in Brasília, during the closing of the 17th National Health Conference.

Lula commented that he called the minister last week after seeing a small note in a newspaper in which someone wanted her position. He stated that he made a point of calling her as he was going to travel abroad and reassured her about staying in the role. “Nísia, go to sleep and wake up calm… you’ll stay as long as I want.”, shared the president.

The president who is resisting the centrão after affirming his position on Nísia, he took the opportunity to praise Nísia’s work. He recalled that a few times a woman was at the head of the Ministry of Health, taking care of the people with her heart, in a maternal way. Lula also reinforced that he was very lucky in relation to the chosen ministers, but he considers that a woman was needed to do the job with better quality.

The minister is being disputed by the “center” and the president stated that there was no way they would remove her from her position in the Ministry of Health. They put pressure on the Lula government to change the minister. The Ministry is very coveted because it is an important demand for the population, with a larger budget for investment in the places, the contributions of this ministry can be directed to different states and municipalities, in addition, for conducting something that is important for individuals, the materials produced are excellent for moments of election.

Among her many accomplishments, Nísia values ​​mental health and her ministry injected more than R$200 million into initiatives in the cause. Nísia is a social scientist, sociologist, researcher and former president of Fiocruz.
