São Paulo enters a state of emergency against dengue

São Paulo declared a state of emergency with the increase in dengue cases. The measure seeks to expand the government's financial efforts to combat dengue.

“We worked with data from the monitoring panel: 311 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. We are in an epidemic, according to what the World Health Organization (WHO) determines from confirmed cases”revealed Regiane de Paula, Disease Control coordinator for the State of São Paulo to G1.

Limited resources

For Priscilla Perdicaris, Secretary of Health, the decision makes the acquisition of inputs, hiring of agents against dengue fever and the network of operations more agile. “And municipalities can use our decree as justification to declare a state of emergency in their municipalities too”, he told G1.

According to the Emergency Operations Center (COE), the decree calculates the use of federal government resources for both the state and municipalities. “It's a limited resource, we don't even have an estimate of the global value yet. But any resource helps”said the Secretary of Health. Planning to combat dengue involves purchasing more smoking devices and mapping hospitals to expand service to the population.
