City of God series team is attacked by police during recording in São Paulo

According to the newspaper O Globo, members of the team from the series Cidade de Deus said they were the target of attacks by the Military Police, in the 12 do Cinga community, in São Paulo, while rehearsing a scene in the place where the series is being filmed. . The series is an HBO Max production, derived from the 2002 film.

Police action

According to the newspaper, an extra from the series was injured after police intervention. In a video circulating online, a police officer appears declaring that the action occurred because they had received information that there would be a “criminal court” in the area. In addition to the actor, a person from the production was also allegedly attacked, while they tried to explain to the police officer that the apparent situation was part of the recording of a fictional series portrayed in the community.

After an interview with Omelete, the production company O2 Filmes reported that it is working with direct collaboration with the authorities. “The producer's priority will continue to be the safety and well-being of everyone involved in our work. O2 stands in solidarity with the crew and cast and has offered all necessary support.”

Furthermore, the producer also stated that the team's vehicle was robbed, which led the team to take additional security measures.

This Friday (11), the press office of the Public Security Secretariat of São Paulo declared that on July 27th, the 5th BPM teams were called to the region of the event, due to an alleged criminal action that was in progress. progress in the North Zone of the capital, São Paulo. During the patrol, the police came across a crowded group that was watching the film crew. After the malicious incident, SSp met with the producer responsible for the series to apologize and provide all the necessary support so that recordings could resume without any complications.

The series

Seu Jorge has already declared that the “City of God taught me what representation is”. In series, we will see an “updated City of God”, which will show “the power of communities”.

Just like the film, the new series will be an adaptation of Paulo Lins' literary work, with the aim of creating a post-film production, showing where the characters would be years after the events of 2002.

In this production, Fernando Meirelles, Andrea Barata Ribeiro and the O2 Filmes team led the productions with the main idea of ​​continuing the story of the famous characters 20 years later. To make this possible, a team of screenwriters led by Sérgio Machado was convened, which included Armando Praça, Renata Di Carmo, Estevão Ribeiro and Rodrigo Felha, completing the team. The direction will be led by Aly Muritiba.

Indications

The film has international recognition, being nominated four times for an Oscar in 2004, for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Editing and Photography. The film won the BAFTA Awards for best editing and won the Writers Guild of America for best screenplay. Until today, “God's city” is the only Brazilian film to have four nominations at the American ceremony.
