Citrus fruits, such as lemon, orange and tangerine, are the main villains. They contain furocoumarins or psoralens, substances that increase the skin's sensitivity to the sun. But what about banana peels? Dermatologist Ana Carolina Sumam, a specialist at SBD, reassures: “Banana is not a fruit that usually causes phytophotodermatitis.” Therefore, using banana peels does not pose the same risk. In general, fruit peels do not offer significant benefits for the skin.

“Banana peel can even relieve itching, but does this benefit outweigh the risks?” reflects Michele Kreuz. “As a dermatologist, I am against this type of practice.
