Ubisoft has canceled its plans for a sequel to Immortal Fenyx Rising, its mythological open-world adventure game released in 2020.
According to website sources VGCthe sequel even had its development started at Ubisoft Quebec, but the company’s leadership decided to cancel the project this month due to the challenges encountered around the establishment of this IP.
Immortal Fenyx Rising, also developed by Ubisoft Quebec, responsible for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, was one of the best games Ubisoft has released in recent years, so it’s a shame they decided not to go ahead with a sequel.
Interestingly, the company’s original intention was to turn Immortals into a franchise, with journalist Jeff Grubb having said in 2022 that the idea was to explore different mythologies in subsequent games, such as Hawaiian Polynesian myths.
However, VGC’s sources say this was put on hold after Ubisoft opted to focus on its larger established brands.
