US makes billion-dollar deal to send weapons to Ukraine

This Friday (24), the United States of America announced a new package of military materials worth US$275 million for Ukraine. According to the United States department, the purpose of donating these materials is to give the Ukrainian country more strength in the war against Russia. The city of Kharkiv has currently been the main target for Russian troops.

The package offered by the US government will include heavy artillery such as 155mm cartridges, high-precision aerial ammunition, such as HIMARS (a program that launches several rockets), and ground vehicles.

Attacks on Kharkiv

Forces from Moscow, Russia, have been focusing their attacks on the northern area of ​​the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine, for a few months and have launched a land attack surrounding the region, an offensive that has already taken place in two lines of attack. for now.

The weapons package will use presidential authority, meaning the president will be able to authorize the transfer of services and items from U.S. storage without requiring congressional approval during an emergency.

The officers who spoke about the situation remained anonymous, as they were not authorized to discuss the situation publicly. Congress has already authorized more than US$70 million to provide aid to the Ukrainian government. In addition to this amount, another investment of US$8 million was allocated to presidential items.

In addition to military ammunition, the package offered by the US government includes vehicles, which were designed in such a way that it is possible to recover injured tanks and other heavy military equipment that have not yet been recovered and are still in the field, being a sign which the United States government believes and expects that further attacks and loss of equipment will continue.
