Vasco faces Fluminense at Maracanã after lineup changes
– international sports, latest sports news, local games and international games

The Vasco da Gama team faces Fluminense, on the afternoon of this Saturday 20th, a match referring to the 3rd round of the 2024 Brazilian Championship. However, the team must present some changes in relation to the last game to face the rival in this match. Despite the absence of Medel and Payet, both with injuries, no other players considered starters were detected with any type of injury after Wednesday's match against Bragantino. In the last series of tests, doctors did not identify an injury to defender João Victor, who was doubtful for the next game, as he had to leave at half-time in the last game's defeat.

Probable lineup

In the last training session held this Friday, the day before the match against Flu, coach Ramón Diaz was unable to define 100% of the starting lineup for this Saturday's game due to his players having little recovery and rest time. What is known is that defender Maicon should start in Medel's place, thus forming the starting defense in today's match. Therefore, the likely Vasco players who should appear on the field are: Léo Jardim, Paulo Henrique (João Victor), Maicon, Léo, Lucas Piton, Mateus Carvalho (Zé Gabriel), Sforza, Galdames, Rossi, David and Vegetti.

Good memories

New to the lineup, defender Maicon did very well in the last clash between the teams last year, where Cruz-Maltino won 4-2, at the Nilton Santos Stadium (Engenhão). On that occasion, the defender was Léo's teammate, as starter Medel was suspended and did not have the opportunity to play on that occasion. Ramón Diaz's team wanted to improve spirits after their last defeat and believed that a victory in a classic would boost the team's morale and give the players time to rest and recover from their injuries.

The record is favorable for Gigante da Colina, as they faced Fluminense around 390 times in total, achieving 154 wins and 115 draws. The tricolor team, in turn, triumphed 121 times against its rival.
