With boos from the crowd, Cruzeiro loses to Fortaleza at Mineirão

Cruzeiro and Fortaleza faced each other on the night of this Wednesday (21), after the break for Data Fifa, in a match valid for the 11th round of the Brazilian Championship. The confrontation took place at Mineirão and was won by Fortaleza, which overcame Cruzeiro by 1 to 0. With this result, both teams reached 14 points, with Fortaleza in 11th position, two positions below the Celeste team. For Cruzeiro, this defeat marks their seventh consecutive match without achieving a victory.

The dissatisfaction of Cruzeiro fans was evident in the face of yet another negative result in the Brazilian Championship. After Fortaleza scored the winning goal by 1 to 0, in the 34th minute of the second half, the fans expressed their dissatisfaction singing: “Team pipoqueiro, you have to be brave to play on my Cruzeiro”. The screams were repeated at the end of the match. Players faced boos and objects being thrown, mostly cups, as they made their way to the locker rooms.

The first half of the match had a dangerous move in the 18th minute, when Marlon took a dangerous free kick, but the ball went to the left of the opponent’s goal. Soon after, in the next minute, Bruno Rodrigues received a cross from William in the small area and headed it towards the ground, but João Ricardo made a spectacular defense on top of the line, avoiding Cruzeiro’s goal. Fortaleza did not take long to respond and had their chance in the 45th minute. Guilherme won a ball dispute with Oliveira after a long throw, started a counterattack, entered the area and finished with power, however, the ball went over the goal defended by Rafael Cabral.

In the second stage, Cruzeiro again caused danger in the 25th minute. After a cross, the ball crossed the entire area and reached the feet of Henrique Dourado, who finished outside, wasting an excellent opportunity. However, it was Fortaleza that opened the scoring at Mineirão. In the 34th minute of the second half, Thiago Galhardo started a counterattack and made the pass to Calebe, who overcame the defenders and served Lucero. The Argentine striker launched himself onto the pitch to push the ball into the back of the net. The second goal just didn’t come out because Galhardo kicked it out, even though he was close to the goal. Cruzeiro’s last scoring opportunity came from a header by Henrique Dourado, but João Ricardo made another great save.

Cruzeiro completed five consecutive games without winning in the championship, registering three defeats and two draws, which kept the team with 14 points in the table. With the drop in the standings, the Celeste team now occupies the tenth position. In addition, there is a risk of falling even further if Internacional, Red Bull Bragantino or Cuiabá win their respective games in this round.

On the other hand, Fortaleza recovered from the defeat suffered in its last clash against Botafogo and rose from 11th to 8th position, now accumulating 17 points.

In the next match, Cruzeiro will play again with the support of their fans, facing São Paulo at 9 pm (Brasília time) on Saturday (24), at Arena Independência. A little earlier, at 6:30 pm, Fortaleza will receive Atlético-MG at Arena Castelão, in Fortaleza (CE).
