111 years of Peixe: In the midst of the Santos crisis and celebrates its birthday this Friday

Santos FC completes 111 years this Friday (14). To celebrate the anniversary, Alvinegro Praiano, which in recent years has been fighting not to be relegated in the Paulista and Brazilian Championships, left concerns aside and prepared a great event to be held at the Blue Med Convention Center, in Santos, from from 7 pm.

The celebration will count on the presence of athletes from the current cast, both in the male and female categories, of idols of Brazilian music and also with the participation of the family of King Pelé, who will be honored. During the celebration, the team’s new uniform will also be unveiled.

According to the club, one of the biggest attractions of the night will be the group Raça Negra, which will present the band’s hits. Among the other artists that will participate in the event are: Kyan, band Sold Out, Samba School of Torcida Jovem, DJ Lu Beatz and the Samba School of Torcida Sangue Jovem.

Accustomed to accumulating trophies, Peixe has been facing a succession of complications on and off the pitch. In the last editions of the Brasileirão, Santos did not go beyond 10th and 12th place, in 2021 and 2022, respectively. In the 2023 season, Santos was still eliminated in the first phase of the Campeonato Paulista.

The club’s millionaire financial debt is one of the aggravating factors of the crisis experienced by Alvinegro Praiano. In December 2020, the Santos debt reached BRL 391 million. Today, the debt amount corresponds to approximately R$ 299 million.

The perspective for Peixe is that the situation will improve with the change of master sponsor. Santos signed a contract valid for two years with the Blaze bookmaker, which has a partnership with the player Neymar. With the agreement, the club will receive around BRL 45 million, almost double the amount provided by the current contract with Pixbet, which pays BRL 25 million.
