5 interesting facts about Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is one of the most successful releases in SEGA's traditional Yakuza series, and shows that RPGs with turn-based combat still have a lot to offer. Producing great commercial success, the game has several interesting curiosities and today we will explore five of them.

1 – Infinite Wealth is the first that is not set in Japan

Until then, all games in the Like a Dragon series (formerly known as Yakuza) took place in the land of the rising sun. In Infinite Wealth, players explore Hawaii, giving their adventures a new look, but without changing their character. Furthermore, the game also takes place in some familiar locations in Japan.

2 – Sensitive topics handled intelligently

The game has the protagonist duo Kasuga and Kiryu, the first of whom is searching for his biological mother, while the second is fighting lung cancer. What could result in a melodramatic, predictable and clichéd story ends up working as the opposite and we become really involved with the fate of these characters.

3 – Received 40/40 from Famitsu

The Japanese magazine Famitsu has existed since the 1980s and it is a tradition to have four game experts who evaluate titles and, very rarely, all four give a “10”. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth achieved this feat, joining the select group of games that achieved a 40/40 rating.

4 – Parodies of famous games

The game features unlockable elements such as “Sujimon League” and “Dondoko Island”, which are parodies of Pokémon and Animal Crossing games. In Sujimon, you participate in a competition and the objective is to defeat other trainers, face members of the “Discreet Quartet” and increase the level of sujimon that can be captured in the wild. It ends up being another game in a bigger one.

5 – Return of classic minigames

Speaking of minigames, Infinite Wealth brings back some classics from the Yakuza series, such as Karaoke, Darts and Mahjong.
