Botafogo announces Alex Telles as new signing

Botafogo announced on Tuesday afternoon (03) the signing of left-back Alex Telles, 31, who previously played for the Arab team Al-Nassr. The player, who was one of the members of the Brazilian team at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, was free on the market after terminating his contract with his former club, and the contract with Glorioso will be valid until the end of 2026. The full-back is expected in Rio de Janeiro to undergo tests before being officially presented.

The termination of Alex Telles' contract with Al-Nassr was announced by the team itself last Monday (02), on social media. According to the team, the decision was by mutual agreement between the club's board and the athlete's team, who defended Al-Nassr for just over a year.

This decision was made after the Saudi Arabian Football Federation announced that it would increase the limit on foreign players in the country's clubs. According to the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF), starting from the current season, only 10 players of other nationalities, two of whom are U-21 players, can join the teams. With the arrival of Brazilian goalkeeper Bento in July, Al-Nassr had exceeded the limit imposed by the federation and could not register one of the foreign players in the national championships.

As the player is a free agent on the market, Botafogo wasted no time in starting negotiations with Telles' team. The player should take over the starting position from Cuiabano, who is one of the standout players in the Brazilian Championship and is recovering from an injury.

About the player

Born in Caxias do Sul (RS), Alex Telles began his career at the Juventude youth team and stood out in the Campeonato Gaúcho and the Brasileirão Série D. In 2013, the player was transferred to Grêmio, where he played 51 matches, scored one goal and provided four assists.

The following year, Telles moved to foreign football and played for the Galatasaray club, where he spent two seasons and was loaned to Inter Milan in Italy. In 2016, the player's new destination was Porto, where he stayed for four years, played in 195 matches and scored 26 goals and had 54 assists. Telles was then sold to Manchester United in England and after a year, he was loaned to Sevilla. During the same period, Telles played for the Brazilian national team in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The following year, the player's career changed course to Arab football with Al-Nassr. With the team, he played 44 games, scored three goals and scored six assists.
