Atlético Goianiense dismisses Alberto Valentim and seeks a new coach for Série B

Atlético Goianiense, through its social networks, declared that Alberto Valentim will no longer command the team in the rest of Série B of the Brazilian championship. The club claimed that it is looking for a different philosophy of work and that the performance is below expectations. This is the team’s third change of command this season.

Alberto Valentim took over the dragon in May, spending just over two months leading the team. His start of work really cheered up the crowd, as there were two important victories, against Londrina and against Esporte Clube Vitória.

After a convincing start, the team only managed to win just one more game in ten played. Valentim’s performance ahead of Atlético was only 41%, with three wins, six draws and three defeats.

In the last round, on Friday (07), an away draw against Novorizontino culminated in the dismissal of Alberto Valentim. The team started losing the match, however, reacted and tied at the end of the game, however, this was not enough to keep the coach’s job.

The dismissal took place after the team returned to Goiânia, this Monday morning (10), after a closed-door conversation with the club’s president, Adson Batista. According to him, “It was an honest, calm conversation, I was transparent with him. The doors will always be open for Alberto, he is a good person and a good coach.” The coach did not even return to the field to lead the physical training, which was taken over by the club’s permanent physical trainer, Jorge Soter.

Adson Batista wants to define a new commander as soon as possible, but he said that the options presented so far are bad.

Dragon fans complained on the club’s social media that the team’s problem is not the coach but the squad. The club president stated that he does not intend to make player signings at the moment and that it is up to the fans just to cheer.

Who will lead the team on an interim basis in the next round, on Friday (14th), against Sport will be assistant coach Anderson Gomes. The game will be in Goiânia.
