Brazilian striker changes club in England and is the most expensive signing in the history of the new club

Making a great season, Brighton & Hove Albion announced this Friday the signing of young Brazilian striker João Pedro. The negotiation cost around R$ 188 million to the club from the south of England.

Having arrived at the Hornets in 2020, the striker has played a good role for the Championship club where in the current season he has played 35 games and scored 11 goals. In addition to goals, the player born in Ribeirão Preto has already provided four assists so far.

With his base having been made in Fluminense, João Pedro Junqueira Jesus was born in 2001. From 2019 to 2020 the athlete stayed in the Rio de Janeiro tricolor to then head to Hertfordshire to defend the Hornets and continue his career as a professional athlete. Now signed with Brighton, João will live his first experience in the Premier League for a new club.

The contract lasting until June 2028 can reach the amount of 200 million reais (due to additional bonuses). With the negotiation, Fluminense is entitled to 5% of the negotiation as a training club, which is a FIFA solidarity mechanism. One of the club’s directors, David Weir, commented on the club’s new acquisition:

He is a brilliant young talent, technically very good, fast and with an eye for goal. He will complement our existing attack line very well. He has adapted well here too, with good Premier League and Championship experience and over 100 appearances for Watford.
